M.D. Medical Director, Psychiatrist
There is a particular kind of tired that comes from living in south King County and trying to get a psychiatry appointment.
You call a Seattle practice. They’re not taking new patients. You call another. Six-month wait. You find someone in Bellevue who has an opening, look at what I-405 does at 4:30 on a Tuesday, and quietly decide you’ll deal with it later.
That calculation is the reason a lot of people in Tukwila, Renton, Burien and Kent go years without care they’ve already decided they want. The barrier isn’t willingness. It’s logistics.
Where we are, and why that matters
BestMind’s Tukwila clinic is at 6700 Fort Dent Way, Suite 101, just off the Southcenter interchange where I-5 and I-405 meet.
That location is not an accident. It’s one of the few spots in the region within a short drive of Renton, SeaTac, Burien, Kent, Federal Way, Des Moines, Normandy Park, Tukwila itself and the south end of Seattle — without asking anyone to cross a bridge or park downtown. There’s surface parking. If you’re coming from the airport corridor or the Kent Valley, you’re not fighting the city to get here.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
What we actually treat here
The Tukwila office is a full psychiatric clinic, not a satellite office with a laptop in it.
Psychiatric medication management. Evaluation, diagnosis and ongoing medication care for depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD and OCD. This is the majority of what happens here. If you’ve been managing an antidepressant through a primary care doctor doing their best with fifteen-minute visits, this is the difference: a psychiatric provider whose entire job is the thing you’re there for. Our medication management page covers what a first visit looks like.
TMS therapy. Transcranial magnetic stimulation for depression that hasn’t responded to medication. FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder, no anesthesia or sedation, sessions about 20 to 40 minutes. Details are on our TMS therapy page, and who qualifies for TMS walks through the criteria.
Esketamine (SPRAVATO). A nasal spray treatment for treatment-resistant depression, administered in clinic under monitoring. See our esketamine page.
ADHD testing. Formal evaluation for adults and kids, not a five-question screener. Our ADHD testing page explains the process.
In-person or telehealth: how to actually choose
Both are available here, and the choice is less about preference than about what the visit is for.
Telehealth works well for medication follow-ups, ongoing management once you’re stable, and any appointment where the clinical work is a conversation. It’s the right call if you’re on a shift schedule in the Kent Valley, parenting without childcare, or working with twenty minutes between meetings. Our post on what a virtual psychiatry visit really looks like covers the practical side.
In person is the right call for TMS and esketamine, which are delivered in clinic by definition. It also tends to be better for a first evaluation, for anything involving a complicated medication history, and for people who simply think more clearly in a room than on a screen.
You are not locked in. Most patients here mix the two — an in-person evaluation, telehealth follow-ups, then back in person when something changes. That’s the normal pattern, not a special accommodation.
Insurance and cost in Washington
BestMind is in network with a range of commercial plans, and coverage in Washington is not identical to coverage in Oregon. Rather than list plans that may not apply to yours, here’s the more useful advice.
Ask about your specific plan when you call. Our team verifies your benefits before your first visit. The current accepted-plan list lives on our insurance page.
Ask about coverage and cost as two separate questions. “Are you in network?” and “what will I pay per visit?” have different answers. Get both.
For TMS and esketamine, expect prior authorization. Nearly every plan requires it. Our team assembles the documentation — diagnosis, medication history with doses and durations, symptom severity. Write down every psychiatric medication you’ve tried, roughly what dose, how long you stayed on it and why you stopped. Vague recall slows approvals more than anything else, and your pharmacy can usually help you reconstruct it.
Getting started
Call (360) 295-9077 or request an appointment through our Tukwila scheduling page. New patients are typically scheduled within weeks rather than months.
Bring three things to your first visit: your medication history, a rough timeline of when symptoms started or worsened, and an honest answer to “what would you like to be different in six months?” That last one shapes the treatment plan more than people expect.
Full address, hours and directions are on our Tukwila location page.
The traffic isn’t going to improve. The waiting probably will — but only if you make the call.
If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24 hours a day.
